Ewa Palarczyk at ICMEF Vienna 2025 – an international perspective on future competencies and SDG implementation
During the International Conference on Management, Economics and Finance (ICMEF), held on 28–30 November 2025 in Vienna, Ewa Palarczyk took part in the presentation of results from an international research project focused on the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in European metropolitan areas.
The ICMEF conference brings together academics and practitioners from the fields of management, economics and finance, providing a platform for discussion on contemporary socio‑economic challenges and public policy development.
Future competencies and social engagement
The presentation entitled “Developing Future Competencies and Building Engagement: Insights from an International Metropolitan Benchmark on Selected UN Sustainable Development Goals” was prepared by an international research team representing the Academy of Silesia, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.
The presentation was based on a study covering 9,686 inhabitants from eight European metropolitan areas and focused on:
- priorities in the implementation of the SDGs,
- differences in how sustainable development is perceived across metropolises,
- the role of future competencies and social engagement in the effective implementation of development goals.
Key insights for cities and organizations
The findings demonstrated that the pace and effectiveness of SDG implementation differ significantly between metropolitan areas. One of the key challenges identified is the need to build awareness, understanding and active involvement of residents in sustainability‑driven transformation processes.
The study provides valuable, data‑driven insights for:
- local and regional authorities,
- public institutions,
- organizations and companies implementing ESG strategies.
Science as a foundation for sustainable transformation
Ewa Palarczyk’s participation in ICMEF Vienna 2025 highlights the importance of linking academic research with management practice and sustainable development strategies. The presented analyses form a solid basis for further comparative research and for designing initiatives that support inclusive and long‑term development of metropolitan areas.
